By AnnArbor.com Staff

The best high school tennis being played in Washtenaw County on Thursday afternoon also made a state-wide impact.

No. 8-ranked Father Gabriel Richard tied No. 4-ranked Greenhills to shake up the coaches association Division 4 poll just a little.

And, in Division 1 play, No. 2-ranked Saline handed No. 10 Huron a 7-1 loss.

While No. 3 Pioneer's two local rivals were going head-to-head, the Pioneers were off at Holly, smashing the Bronchos' dual meet win streak.

Gabriel Richard held a 3-1 advantage in singles, but Greenhills evened things up with a 3-1 edge in the doubles flights of their cross-town matchup.

In the showdown between two of the county's top players, Greenhills' Kasey Gardiner topped Gabriel Richard's Kelsey Geppner 6-0, 6-3 for the No. 1 singles win.

Saline had a much easier time in its match with Huron, sweeping the singles flights without losing a set. Niki Shipman (No. 1), Mary Hanna (No. 2), Jennifer Ho (No. 3) and Shanna Cooper (No. 4) combined to lose just 17 games in straight-set wins.

Huron got its lone win from the No. 3 doubles team of Melanie Langa and Emily Chang.

The Pioneers didn't lose a set in their dominating road win. Courtney Lymburner and Katherine Globerson had the most convincing singles wins, notching 6-0, 6-0 victories at the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively. In doubles, Pioneer won 6-0, 6-0 in each of the top three flights.

The Flint Journal reported that Holly's dual meet loss was its first since a 7-1 setback to St. Johns on Sept. 23, 2004.
