Huron and Lincoln split baseball doubleheader, Pioneer softball sweeps Ypsilanti and more Monday results

By AnnArbor.com Staff

A Saturday-to-Monday turnaround left the Huron High School baseball team's pitching ranks stretched a little thin. So much so that Adam Samoray didn't have much time to celebrate his win in three innings of relief work against Lincoln.

That's because he had to trot back out to the mound to start the second game of the Southeastern Conference doubleheader and picked up a loss in four innings of work.

"I wouldn't have done that normally, but we were thin today," said Huron coach Terry Bigham.

The River Rats (8-7, 2-1 SEC) broke a 9-9 tie in the bottom of the sixth and held on to win the opener, 11-9, despite Lincoln hitting four home runs - two by senior Andrew Dillon, who had three RBIs in the game.

"We knew we had to score a lot of runs today to have a chance and we did in the first game," Bigham said. "Overall I would say it was one of our biggest wins of the year."

Samoray got chased after four innings in the nightcap. He left with his team trailing 4-2, but the Railsplitters drove in four runs in the top of the fifth and held on for 10-5 win. Adam Goricki picked up the win, giving up five earned runs in 5 2/3 innings of work. Zach Dunlop picked up the save.
