Monroe St. Mary beats Milan 63-21 to claim Huron League championship
MONROE -- The Milan High School coaching staff knew their football team had its hands full, traveling to Navarre Field to play Monroe St Mary Catholic Central, the state's third-ranked team in Division 6, with the Huron League championship on the line for both schools.
The Big Reds did some things to hang around with St Mary in the first half, but the Falcons ultimately ran away with the game, trouncing Milan 63-21.
The first half began and ended on hopeful notes for Milan, as the Big Reds scored touchdowns on the first and last plays of the half. Leo Pittman returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to give Milan an early lead, and Joe Dunn scored on a 15-yard touchdown catch with no time left on the clock in the second quarter.
The problem for Milan (6-2, 5-2 Huron) was that in between the touchdowns by Pittman and Dunn, St. Mary (7-1, 7-0 Huron) scored 35 points of its own.
