One of the first Ann Arbor girls basketball showdowns of the year is on track to be our first AnnArbor.com Basketball Game of the Week.

As of Thursday morning, Pioneer’s Dec. 6 visit to Father Gabriel Richard had garnered nearly 500 votes, more than half of the total votes cast since our poll opened on Monday.

Chelsea at Milan boys is in second place, followed by Lincoln at Willow Run boys, Milan at Skyline girls and Willow Run at Lincoln girls.

Fans have until noon Saturday to vote, when the poll closes. The winning game will receive our Game of the Week treatment, including a preview, multiple reporters at the game writing multiple stories, photos, and a live chat. The live chat will be accessible from both computers and through our iPhone and Android mobile apps.

The Pioneer-FGR game will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday. The rest of the games are Friday.

FGR is coming off a 17-8 season last year that saw the Irish advance to a regional final. The Pioneers finished last year at 10-11, losing in a first-round district game to Huron.

I guess Ann Arbor Huron doesn't rate. Final Four for the state championship last year!?!? I don't remember any of the teams above going to states.

Huron not being in this poll is a result of scheduling. The Huron girls' only game next week is against Salem, and the Huron boys don't play until Dec. 11. We opted to go with all Washtenaw County matchups in this one. We'll be having weekly polls all season, and rest assured Huron will be in plenty of them.
