Pioneer girls hockey makes two-goal first period stand, and other Wednesday results

The Pioneer High School girls hockey team capitalized on early opportunities and skated to a 3-1 win over Livonia Ladywood Wednesday night at Veteran's Memorial Ice Arena.

Pioneer's Rachel Freeman scored her 14th goal of the season at the 9-minute mark of the first period and Emy Guttman added a goal with 1:04 left in the first stanza for a 2-0 lead. Both goals were unassisted.

Pioneer (11-2) goaltender Sydney Supica, who made 14 saves, took over from there. She kept Ladywood (3-12) off the scoreboard until Hannah Periera scored with 7:50 left to play. (Complete Story | Boxscore)

WRESTLING SEC Quad at Pioneer: State-ranked Temperance Bedford and Adrian both went 2-0 with wins over Pioneer and Lincoln at the make-up event. (Story | Results)
