Seven players score first ever goals in Pioneer girls hockey team's win over Bloomfield Hills

By AnnArbor.com Staff

There was a clear discrepancy in talent between the Pioneer High School and Bloomfield Hills girls hockey teams. Pioneer coach Lon Grantham knew this, so he called off the dogs before the puck was even dropped.

"Only players that hadn't scored were able to score tonight," Grantham said. The team took the challenge to heart and eight girls scored their first-career goals in a 9-1 victory at Veteran's Memorial Park in Ann Arbor.

The victory puts the Pioneers at .500 with a 1-1 record. Their next game will be outdoors Sunday, Dec. 5th at 9 a.m. at Michigan Stadium against Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett. The game is the first in a series of high school games throughout the day at the Big House, all of which will be open to the public free of charge.
