Pioneer hockey scores four unanswered goals in 6-3 win over Huron
In a game marred by penalties, the Pioneer High School boys hockey team overcame a 3-2 first period deficit to beat cross-town rival Huron 6-3 at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube Wednesday night.
Huron scored two power play goals in the first period, but Pioneer was able to score four unaswered goals, three off of the power play, over the final two periods. Pioneer had 12 penalties, Huron 11.
"Way too many penalties," Pioneer coach Steve Armstrong said. "We have to learn to be more disciplined."
"It's tough to get into rhythm for both teams when there's that many penalties," Huron coach Bill DeGroot said. "I think only like 11-12 of their shots came in 5-on-5 play. I'm not disappointed in the game. Our focus is to grow from game to game, and that's not going to change."
