Huron advances, Pioneer falls in girls lacrosse Division 1 regional semifinals

SOUTH LYON - The Division 1 girls lacrosse regional semifinals in South Lyon were moved up one day to accommodate graduation at Canton High School.

It also gave the Huron team an extra day to enjoy what coach Melissa Lapedis called its best-played game of the season.

The River Rats beat Plymouth-Canton-Salem United 17-11 on Tuesday and will play Brighton in Saturday's 3:30 p.m. regional final. The Bulldogs beat Pioneer 18-13 on Tuesday.

"The way our team played today, I think we can give them a challenge," Lapedis said of Brighton, which brings a 13-5 record into the matchup. "It's a good time to peak."

Molly Hannaford led Huron (11-4) with five goals while Taylor Standiford and Liz DeMonte added four goals apiece.

The Pioneers end their season with a 9-5 record. Details from their game against Brighton were not available.
