Saline advances in hockey playoffs with win over Temperance Bedford and more Monday results
The Saline High School hockey team beat Temperance Bedford twice during the regular season, each time besting the Kicking Mules by one goal.
It looked like Bedford finally had the Hornets figured out Monday during the pre-regional round of the Division 2 MHSAA state tournament at Pinckney’s Arctic Coliseum.
Bedford had a 2-0 lead just seven minutes into the first period, with both goals scored by its top line, led by senior captain Jared Kujawa, who along with Brett Podgorski had a goal and an assist in the first period.
Saline scored four unanswered goals the rest of the way, though, and went on to win the game 4-2, ending Bedford’s season.
“We really had very little composure in the first seven, eight minutes of the game. The best thing about that period was that we were only one goal down,” said Saline coach Drew Denzin. “The way they came back was a testament to their work ethic, and give them credit, it’s hard to beat a team three times in a season.”
