Standing 30 feet from the net, Saline High School's Alex Stowe -- his team in a 4-4 tie with Pinckney late in the third -- unleashed a high slap-shot at the net.

Shooting from that distance, Stowe didn't expect the puck to needle through the Pirate's defense, ricochet off the top post and bounce across the goal line for the game-winning goal.

But it did.

And Saline added an insurance power-play goal in the final minute, giving the Hornets a 6-4 win over the Pirates in a Division 2 pre-regional game Wednesday night at Chelsea's Arctic Coliseum.

"It was awesome. I didn't know it went in at first," Stowe said of his goal. "I didn't think I'd actually get it in, but it went in. I'm glad I could help close it out."

Saline trailed 4-2 heading into the final period before ripping off four unanswered goals in the third. (Rest of the Story | Boxscore)
