Visitation for long-time Ypsilanti High School athletic director Mike McIntosh will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at O’Brien/Sullivan Funeral Home in Novi and a funeral liturgy is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at St. James Church in Novi.

McIntosh, who retired from his second stint as athletic director in 2008, lost an eight-month battle with brain cancer on Tuesday. He was 64.

McIntosh was named assistant principal and athletic director at the school in 1987 and held the position until 1996, when he became the school's assistant principal in charge of discipline.

He returned to the athletic director role in 2005 until his retirement. He told The Ann Arbor News that it was an unexpected switch, but one that brought him full circle.

“I will probably end my career here, which is neat, " McIntosh said in 2005. "I didn't think that I'd feel that way, to be back in sports again, but it should be a nice way to end my career."

McIntosh had previously worked as an athletic director at Detroit Holy Redeemer and was director of physical education and athletics for the Archdiocese of Detroit from 1970-87.
