Six more games to choose from in this week's Beat the Press high school hoops competition
There’s a thin line between being perfect and getting beat.
I went with the Pioneer boys over Temperance Bedford last week in one of my six picks. It was one of my toughest, picking a then-unbeaten Bedford to go down on its home court, but the Pioneers came within inches of making me look pretty smart.
A would-be game-winning 3-pointer from Tevis Robinson was off the mark, as the Pioneers fell by two on the road and fell out of a tie for first place.
I was perfect otherwise, five-for-five. But that missed shot allowed seven people to finish with perfect records and beat me.
I’m hoping the last-second shots go my way this week, whatever way that is, with six new Friday night picks.
At this point in the season, we’re at rematch time, giving me a nice measuring stick for most games, particularly on the girls side.
But the Huron boys are entering their first game against Bedford, as the latest Ann Arbor team to make the trek and try to knock off a first-place team.
I’ve picked against the Bedford boys twice this year, and both times I’ve lost on the game’s final posession. This time, I’m learning my lesson. Those rims down there seem cruel to Ann Arbor teams.
