Skyline girls soccer comes back to win final AnnArbor.com Team of the Week vote

By Pete Cunningham

Voting blew up on in the final 48 hours of the final AnnArbor.com Team of the Week poll and good old fashioned comeback was the result.

Midway through the day on Wednesday, the Saline High School girls soccer team was beating the Skyline High School soccer team 148-50. Both teams and their fan bases weren't even close to finished voting and between them cast 875 votes in two days. The results have the Eagles flying high with 636 (51.9 percent) of the votes, compared to Saline's 437 (35.7 percent).

The Pioneer boys track, Manchester softball and Huron boys golf team rounded out the voting with 147 votes between them.

It's only fitting that Skyline's soccer team edged Saline as the Eagles are currently the only team atop the AnnArbor.com rankings not from Saline High School. Skyline will try to do its part to make a run at a Southeastern Conference Red title next week with games against Monroe on Tuesday and Huron on Thursday, both at home.

The Eagles will be looking to win a share of the SEC Red title, which they can do by winning out. Both Saline and Skyline have identical 7-0-1 league records, and played to a 1-1 tie back on May 7. If Eagles are to win the league title outright, they'll need a little help from crosstown rivals Huron and Pioneer, who take on Saline on Tuesday and Thursday respectively.

As usual, AnnArbor.com will cover Skyline extensively throughout the week, providing coverage of competitions, feature stories and photos, just like we did for the Greenhills girls tennis team this week.

With the spring postseason amping up into full gear, this will be the last week of Team of the Week style coverage as we will refocus efforts on providing as extensive playoff coverage as possible. Thanks for participation and keep up with us to see how the teams of the week fair in the postseason.
