Power outage causes Skyline vs. Dexter boys basketball game to be postponed, all other games still on

By Kyle Austin

Skyline’s Friday night boys basketball game against Dexter has been postponed due to a power outage at Skyline High School.

An area transformer failed at around 11 a.m. Friday morning, knocking out power to the school and sending students home. Skyline athletic director John Young said the school received notice that the power could be off until 8 p.m., leading to the game cancellation.

The game has been rescheduled for Feb. 12, 7 p.m. at Skyline.

The cancellation is unrelated to the recent winter weather to hit the Ann Arbor area, and no other area games have been announced as canceled, including Skyline’s girls basketball game at Dexter.

Here is the rest of Friday night’s Washtenaw County basketball schedule:

Boys Basketball
Chelsea at Huron, 7 p.m.
Clinton at Whitmore Lake, 5:30 p.m.
Lincoln at Pioneer, 7 p.m.

What is the point of having a girls team playing away at the same time the boys team is playing at home? Doesn't that force the student body to make a decision over which team to support? Are there split cheer squads/pep bands? In the old days, when I was a high schooler, the girls played one night and the boys another. Or, in the case of Clinton-Whitmore Lake, one before the other.

Power is out at my place on the west side also.... I thought the new automated DTE meters were supposed to automatically report this. Not sure it makes any difference in how long the outage lasts, though.
