The Manchester girls basketball team continues to plow through the Cascades Conference, and the rest of the state is starting to take notice.

The Flying Dutch came in at No. 8 in Class C in the latest Associated Press Michigan prep girls basketball poll, released Tuesday.

After finishing one spot outside of the top ten in the first poll last week, Manchester makes its debut this week after beating Grass Lake and East Jackson by a combined 79 points to move to 9-1 on the season.

Manchester was the lone area program to receive top ten billing, but Arbor Prep received 15 votes in Class C. Last week, Huron, Lincoln and Chelsea all received votes, and despite only Lincoln losing a game since then, none received votes this week.

In the first boys poll, Ypsilanti received 12 votes in Class A, coming in four spots outside the top ten. No other Washtenaw County boys basketball program received votes.

SEC standings

Believe it or not, the SEC girls basketball schedule will be nearly halfway done by week’s end, and the league races are starting to shape up.

The SEC girls play a full league slate Tuesday night, highlighted by Ypsilanti trying to get out of a 1-2 skid against Chelsea, 3-0 in the league. Lincoln and Tecumseh, both 2-1 in league play, will also face off.

In the SEC Red, Huron travels to take on Temperance Bedford, the only unbeaten SEC Red team.

Tuesday’s games mark the fourth in the 12-game league slate, with the fifth games coming Friday.
