I love the photo of Chris Gaskill at States. It was a monumental moment and Pete captured it perfectly. Those moments - and photos - don't come along every day.

So many great photos to choose from. Our photo staff does a great job, this album could have been five times this size in my biased opinion. My two favorites are of Pioneer point guard Jimmy Holman being carried off the court by his students after hitting a game-winning shot (photo #5) and of Milan wrestler Chris Gaskill celebrating with his coaches after a last second comeback 10-9 victory at the individual state finals (photo #8). I'll give the edge to Gaskill because the win made him all-state whereas a loss would have ended his season and career. Plus, you have to get bonus points for looking like a Bond villain that cries tears of blood.

Great photos! The only question I would have is why did you include the Dexter/Pioneer post game shoulder ride of Pioneers Assistant Coach who formerly coached at Dexter? The Lack of sportsmanship displayed at that game was the preamble to the Huron/Pioneer brawl a few weeks later which was a community disgrace.

Too hard to pick a best one. I am always impressed with the photos you take; timing sports photos and getting the "joy of victory and agony of defeat" is difficult. Truly, the photojournalists at A2.com are the best part of this "newspaper."

Looks like we missed the "most published" high school sports photo from this year, eh?

While the photo of the brawl did not display high school sports the way we would like them played.....it was certainly an example of excellent journalistic photography. It captured the raw emotion of the moment. I think it may not be the sports photo of the year; but for A2.com.....it sure is the photo of the year, period.

I assume you guys are talking about the brawl photo. It's in there, photo #32. Say what you will about our coverage of the brawl, that photo and what it took to get it is fantastic photojournalism.
