Pioneer High School and Huron High School have nearly 3,500 students combined.

Milan High School has less than a thousand.

So consider the early returns of the AnnArbor.com “Game of the Week” Week 8 poll a possible upset brewing.

Milan’s game against Carleton Airport leads this week’s poll with 296 votes as of just after 1 p.m. Monday, 42 percent of the total.

In second place is the Ann Arbor rivalry game, Pioneer at Huron, with 141 votes. Saline at Skyline has garnered 116 votes, Michigan Center at Manchester has 78 and Dexter at Chelsea has 63.

The Pioneer-Huron game jumped out to a lead Friday when the poll was posted, but Milan fans staged a comeback over the weekend and hold the midday Monday lead.

The two games have just over a day left to duke it out. Voting closes at 6 p.m. Tuesday

Huron will be looking to snap a nine-game losing streak against its crosstown rival Friday, while Pioneer will look to earn its fifth win to become playoff eligible.

Milan continues its quest for an undefeated season, and can wrap up the Huron League title outright with a Friday win.

Its more likely that people are more interested in watching and supporting a smaller school that is undefeated than watch a bigger school beat its crosstown rival for a tenth time!!! Size has nothing to do with it. In fact Milan used to be in the SEC and i believe the way they are playing would have no problem competing and beating the " Bigger Schools " lol how many seasons went by before Pioneer finally found away to beat Chelsea ? I'm not a huge Milan fan but those boy's are playing some awesome football Yes i admire them!!!

OHH yea small light weight schools!!! BROTHER RICE 28 - PIONEER 7 or what about WARREN DE LA SALLE 35 - PIONEER 7 both schools i mentioned are class B !!! It would be just silly to dimiss a smaller school just because its a smaller. I can definitely see MILAN competing in the SEC and beating the bigger schools like SALINE, PIONEER, MONROE!!!!

with all due respect.... Milan is having a good year but they wouldn't stand a chance against Pioneer. At the end of the day it's still a small town, light weight school.
