Weather causes Ann Arbor Public Schools to cancel all athletic events and practices, other districts varied

All but one of the sports contests scheduled for Washtenaw County high school teams have been cancelled due to Monday's inclement weather.

The Milan High School girls basketball team will still host New Boston Huron in a Huron League contest. Tipoff of the varsity game is scheduled for 7 p.m.

All Southeastern Conference bowling contests and the Rudolf Steiner girls varsity basketball team’s game against Howell Charyl Stockwell Academy have been cancelled. Team practice cancelations vary from district-to-district and from team-to-team. Many athletic directors have advised parents and athletes to check with their respective coaches.

All practices for Ann Arbor Public Schools teams have been canceled, Chelsea High School is making all practices voluntary, and practices for Lincoln High School teams will be held as normally scheduled. Any practice for teams below varsity level at Saline High School have been canceled, varsity athletes have been advised to check with coaches. Athletes at Willow Run High School have been advised to check with coaches on the status of practice.

um... it's just raining and isn't supposed to get below freezing for the next 72 hours.

These cancellations often have much to do with the availability of busses (or lack thereof) on snow days and the fact that some schools and/or coaches don't want to ask kids to drive to school just for practice, etc. It varies from district to district and coach to coach and often weather is but one of many factors.
