Greenhills School boys tennis coach Eric Gajar is well aware of the bittersweetness a No. 1 ranking brings.
"It's nice to get the recognition," said Gajar, whose team was recently ranked first in Division 4 by the Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association. "But, you're the hunted now. You have a target on your back.
"You hope guys look at it (the rankings) and not think the work is done."
The Gryphons did no such thing, taking care of business in an 8-0 nonconference victory over Father Gabriel Richard Wednesday at FGR High School.

Greenhills (4-1) didn't lose a set all match. The closest the Fighting Irish came to taking a set was at No. 4 singles in a 7-6 loss.
In singles, the Gryphons most convincing wins came from Mithun Saha (No. 2) and Zach Tsai (No. 3), who each won in 6-0, 6-0 counts.
While a No. 1 state ranking early in the season is a notable feat, Coach Gajar is more concerned with where Greenhills sits at season's end.
"I'm just worried about the rankings that come out on Oct. 17," he said, referring to the date of the state finals.
