high school roundup: Huron field hockey shuts out Greenhills; Lincoln, Dexter soccer advance in districts and more
The Greenhills School field hockey team had the first two corners of the game against Huron High School, but couldn't convert.
From there, it was all River Rats. Huron scored four unanswered goals the rest of the way for a 4-0 shutout win on its senior night Wednesday in Ann Arbor.
"The girls played very well as a team," said Huron coach Tia Sutton, whose team led 3-0 at halftime. "(They had) great passing and great communication."
More Coverage at MLive.com: Boxscore The Rats' sharp play on offense was initiated five minutes in when Kelsey Gradwohl scored on a Lexi Collins assist. Ten minutes later, Taylor Standiford added a goal on a penalty stroke.
"We started off well. We played a tough defensive game," said Greenhills coach Tom Weinfurther.
Huron's Katie Yeatts scored on Greenhills (7-4-4) with three minutes left in the first half, and Collins rounded out the scoring with a goal five minutes into the second.
Goalkeeper Megan Wesner had three saves in the first half for Huron (12-2), while second-half keeper Tori Westhead faced zero shots.
