Hometown teams fall in A2Ice3 Thanksgiving Meltdown tournament

By Rich Rezler

The first day of the A2Ice3 Thanksgiving Meltdown high school hockey showcase was kind of a turkey for the hometown teams.

Playing in the final two games of the all-day tournament at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube, Huron High School lost 8-1 to Hartland and Pioneer was beaten 5-1 by St. Clair Shores.

One other local competitor, the Lincoln/Milan co-op team, lost 6-4 to Troy.

Huron scored its only goal when Brad Christman finished a breakaway in the first minute of the second period to pull the River Rats within 2-1. But Hartland, which got a hat trick from Nick Manley, led 4-1 after two periods and padded its lead with three goals in the final six minutes of the third.

Pioneer was tied 1-1 with St. Clair Shores after one period thanks to a goal by defensemen Noah Tahir. But the Lakers scored a pair of goals in the second and third periods while holding the Pioneers off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.

Lincoln/Milan got two goals from Jarrett Pfeiffer and a goal and two assists from Blaze Keider in their loss to Troy.

Iceman: We rely on coaches to supply statistics from most events, and we didn't receive complete statistics from this tournament - just scores and a couple of highlights. We didn't have enough information to fill out the box scores on MLive.com.

Rich, Thanks for your reporting. The whole internet/lack of reporters stinks! Last nights game scores are yet to be posted on Mlive(along with any photos). Look for psycho parents to be promoting their own kids soon as objective sports reporting is slowly dying in local high school sports :(
