Last-minute touchdown pass lifts Huron to a 19-13 victory over Ypsilanti

By James Briggs

Senior John Haarer caught a 43-yard touchdown pass with 34 seconds left, lifting the Huron High School football team to a 19-13 win over Ypsilanti.

With the game tied at 13-13, Huron senior quarterback John Helvie threw to Haarer at about the Ypsilanti 25-yard line. Haarer caught the ball over a defender, shook him off, and sprinted toward the end zone for the game-winning touchdown.

"They put me at outside receiver, which isn't something I've really done before," Haarer said. "It's only something we've done a few times this year."

"(An Ypsilanti defender) hit me when I caught it, and I didn't think I was gonna catch it. I was shocked. I think I stepped right over him when I caught it, and I probably stopped." (Rest of the story & photo gallery | Boxscore)
