Saline High School graduate Sarah Hoffman, who was named a Division II All-American for her golf game, added an honor for her work in the classroom.

The Grand Valley State senior was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Hoffman carries a 3.83 GPA while majoring in nursing. She has been named to the GLIAC Academic All-Excellence squad twice and made the GVSU Dean's List six times.


Pioneers playing college ball

Pioneer basketball coach Rex Stanczak announced that point guard Jimmy Holman will play basketball at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and Nick Bertoia will play basketball and run track at Albion.

Huron grad second-team All-GLIAC

Huron graduate Andrea Martin finished her softball career at Northwood University this year on the all-GLIAC second team. With Martin at second base, Northwood led all NCAA divisions with 33 double plays and a per-game double play average of 0.69. Martin, a career .300 hitter, started in 162 games for the Timberwolves. She finished fifth all-time in doubles.


Pioneer athletic physicals on June 6

Pioneer High School team physicians will conduct athletic physicals for the 2012-13 school year from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, in the school’s auxiliary gym. The cost is $25 and registration will be done online that evening in the athletic classroom.


Huron boys basketball boot camp

The Huron High School boys basketball team will host a basketball boot camp from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 9. The camp costs $25 and is open to sixth, seventh and eighth-graders. Campers receive instruction from the Huron coaching staff and past players, and each will receive a T-shirt. Registration is available at www.aareced.com.

Huron Basketball/Volleyball Camp

The Huron High School girls basketball and volleyball programs will put on a combination camp from June 18-21 at the school’s gymnasium. The four-day camp will be split between basketball (9 a.m. to noon) and volleyball (1 to 4 p.m.) with a one-hour lunch and open gym time in between. The cost is $225 for Ann Arbor students. A half-day price of $125 is available if students choose one sport. Registration is available on the Ann Arbor Rec & Ed website.

Father Gabriel Richard girls basketball camp

The tenth annual Father Gabriel Richard Women’s Summer Basketball Camp runs from June 17-21 at the school’s gymnasium. Campers should be entering sixth through ninth grades in the 2012-13 school year. The cost is $130 if registered before June 1, $140 after. Contact Katie Battle at battlema@msu.edu for information.

Arbor Prep Girls Basketball Camp

Arbor Prep High School is holding a girls basketball camp for fourth through eighth graders on June 25-28 at the school, 6800 Hitchingham in Ypsilanti. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day and includes hot dogs, ice cream, performance training speakers and former college players. All skill levels are welcome. A camp meet-and-greet will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on June 24.
