Meandering through the maize (and blue): Ready for college basketball?
By Jim Knight
It's the middle of the college football season, so naturally it's time for basketball.
Really.
The Michigan basketball team had its media day on Tuesday, and it was more interactive than usual, with media members, including Dave Birkett and Michael Rothstein from AnnArbor.com, running through drills. For a look at that, we have a video.
- Lon Horwdel of AnnArbor.com has a slideshow from media day.
- Rothstein details how that even after a second-round appearance in the NCAA tournament and a 21-victory season, the Wolverines feel like an underdog.
- Michigan State quarterback Keith Nichol will see limited action in practice this week and his return to game action is uncertain.
- The University of Alabama released a 14-page rebuttal Tuesday, saying the NCAA acted improperly when it took away 21 victories from the program.
- Pete Thomas of Ypsilanti was the season two winner on “The Biggest Loser” and he’s gathered a group from the show to run in the Detroit Free Press/Flagstar Bank Marathon this weekend.
- Famous fathers are part of the scene at Oaks Christian School, The New York Times reports. NFL Hall of Famer Joe Montana’s son Nick plays quarterback there. The backup quarterback is Trevor Gretzky, son of hockey great Wayne.
- NFL commissoner Roger Goodell doesn’t sound like a fan of Rush Limbaugh, according to a story in The New York Times.
