Jason Forcier won't play for Michigan; Tate Forcier, Denard Robinson making strides

By Dave Birkett

Jason Forcier's bid to rejoin the University of Michigan football team as a graduate transfer student is over.

Forcier, who transferred to Stanford in 2006 after two seasons at Michigan, will not play football for the Wolverines this year, Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said Tuesday.

"It didn’t work out, and he’s going to move on," Rodriguez said. "Without going into all the details, there’s a lot of factors that had to happen for him to be here first, and then be eligible second. After working through that for a few weeks, as you all know, the situation didn’t work out so he’s moving on and we have, too."

Though Michigan had kept a roster spot open for Forcier, the failed transfer has little practical implication this year.

Forcier was not expected to compete for playing time at quarterback. Tate Forcier, Jason's brother, fellow freshman Denard Robinson and Nick Sheridan are in a three-man race for the starting job.

Rodriguez said both Tate Forcier and Robinson are making rapid improvements under center.

"Our quarterbacks got to learn to make the right reads and see different coverages and recognize defenses," Rodriguez said. "Any true freshman at this level, that’s going to be a few weeks to get that down. But I’ve been pleased that they’ve made some plays running around and moving around, both Denard and Tate, and don’t seem too flustered with that."

sparty and bucky are pretty quiet now. they must see the writting on the wall. i mean honestly how long did they think the winningest program in football would stay down. sparty should be especially ashamed of himself. if they get lucky they beat michigan once every 10 years and it always seems to go to their head. they think they're taking over football in the state. spare me with the nonsense. the dirty little secret is that bigblue is gonna take over b-ball from little sister.

Very good point, Stan, haha. One of the reasons I begrudgingly packed up and left Ann Arbor after graduation last year. I wouldn't turn away from a GA or any other position with RR, if I could get it. Well, I'm glad that chapter's closed. We have more than enough possible quarterbacks, and I think a lot of us would like for (Tate) Forcier to just be that guy...knowing RR, Forcier and Robinson will both show up in games, and maybe even Sheridan, just like he probably won't let Minor just be our running back and quit playing switcheroo.

I wouldn't count on Jason finding a job anywhere in this state, so I'm not sure if he'll have much time to be around his brother.

That possibility was actually raised and Rich said he expects Jason to hit the real world instead. "Hed probably like to, but I think he wants to get a job and start that phase of his life," Rodriguez said. "But I think hes going to be around a little bit and watch his brother, watch the team. He knows a lot of guys on the team."

He could be a GA, though. I wonder if RR has thought of this?
