Jason Forcier's bid to rejoin the University of Michigan football team as a graduate transfer student is over.

Forcier, who transferred to Stanford in 2006 after two seasons at Michigan, will not play football for the Wolverines this year, Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said Tuesday.

"It didn’t work out, and he’s going to move on," Rodriguez said. "Without going into all the details, there’s a lot of factors that had to happen for him to be here first, and then be eligible second. After working through that for a few weeks, as you all know, the situation didn’t work out so he’s moving on and we have, too."

Though Michigan had kept a roster spot open for Forcier, the failed transfer has little practical implication this year.

Forcier was not expected to compete for playing time at quarterback. Tate Forcier, Jason's brother, fellow freshman Denard Robinson and Nick Sheridan are in a three-man race for the starting job.

Rodriguez said both Tate Forcier and Robinson are making rapid improvements under center.

"Our quarterbacks got to learn to make the right reads and see different coverages and recognize defenses," Rodriguez said. "Any true freshman at this level, that’s going to be a few weeks to get that down. But I’ve been pleased that they’ve made some plays running around and moving around, both Denard and Tate, and don’t seem too flustered with that."
