Former Lions general manager Matt Millen will broadcast Michigan's Sept. 12 game against Notre Dame, ESPN publicist Mike Humes said in a conference call Tuesday.

Millen, who led the Lions to an NFL-worst 31-84 record in his seven-plus seasons as GM, returned to television last January, four months after he was fired in Detroit.

He said at Big Ten football media days last month that he's not bothered by people who think his front-office experience makes him less qualified as a commentator.

“I played for a long time; we won Super Bowls," Millen said. "I was in television for a while and then I was on the other side, the management side of it, and didn’t have success. But that doesn’t diminish your ability to learn or your ability to see how things operate and don’t operate.

“All that stuff hopefully should (help me), at least to some level. But I know there’s going to be people who aren’t thrilled with it. I don’t know what I can do about it. Let me know.”

Millen will broadcast Saturday games on ABC this fall alongside Sean McDonough and provide studio analysis for ESPN's Sunday NFL coverage.
