Meandering through the maize (and blue): Forcier's shoulder worse than previously thought

By Michael Rothstein

A few weeks ago, landing on it hard multiple times, Michigan quarterback Tate Forcier bruised his right shoulder.

Now, according to a report in the Michigan Daily, it might be worse than previously reported. Forcier's brother, Jason, told the Daily it is an AC joint sprain and "his shoulder is more injured than I think the public realizes."

Forcier also suffered a concussion Saturday against Iowa and was pulled from the final two series of Michigan's 30-28 loss to the Hawkeyes due to a coach's decision. As you contemplate that, check out the rest of today's links:

Tater. My prediction at the beginning of the season that with RR spread offense, Tater was going to take a lot of hits especially as they entered the Big 10 season. Given his size and lack of muscularity, he was going to get beaten up just like McGuffie. Shoelace should have been given more playing time earlier so that he would be ready in a situation like this. I think Shoelace should be given some real time game experience on Saturday, allow Tater to rest up and heal. No sense in ruining his health this early in his career. It is also my prediction that Tater will not be a strong spread QB in the big 10.

Agree with Tater. We'll need Forcier healthy for the end of season run. And Robinson hasn't gotten enough game reps in the last few weeks. He needs to tune up his passing game for one thing. But all this underscores the need for Michigan to have 2 or 3 good QB's on the roster who can run the spread offense. Neither Tate nor Denard are big kids who will be able to take a lot of big hits over the long run without getting banged up. Being able to pass more effectively and be selective in running the ball will be keys.
