Michigan A.D. Dave Brandon discusses self sanctions, Rich Rodriguez's job security

By Jeff Arnold

Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez and athletic director Dave Brandon addressed television cameras and reporters Tuesday after releasing the details of its reply to the NCAA and the five major violations levied against the Wolverines football program.

Brandon again reiterated his support for Rodriguez as Michigan's coach saying, "Let me nail this because this is the question I'm getting tired of answering."

...don't have chance to win four non-conference games. That's great.

Rightmin, thanks for clearing that up.Actually, Michigan will go 6-0 to start things off. Count on it. And OSU, I'm glad you want him to stay, even the bandwagon fans will want the same thing in November.

azwolverine; They don't have a chance winning 4 non-conference games. Connecticut, loss, Notre dame, loss, Massachusettes, 1st win, Bowling Green, loss, Indiana, loss. That makes UM 1-4 going into MSU week. Richrod will be fired before that game to save face after another loss to Sparty.

RR has got this season. Next year will be a Michigan man who can compete with OSU,MSU, Wisc, Iowa and PSU. A new coach who will restore some honor.

I'll never give up on our boys in maize and blue! I'm just making mental notes of all the naysayers and I'll be right here when we hand it to Uconn to make a statement. Then we'll see who has the last word.

Robbie - you hang in they pal.... the only place RichRod is going at the end of the year is to a January Bowl - silver or crystal, make the call. All these 57 stories on infractions to date are newspaper fodder, gives the low life outsiders and Michigan unfaithful a chance to dump their problems. There are many Michigan faithful like you, we live and anticipate UM FB - and yes we speak up against the naysayers. However, you see just a small portion here - tell you what, go into any bar during the Michigan/Notre Dame or Michigan/Ohio State in America, no the World and you will find someone cheering ole Blue. Go onto facebook and look up the newly started 'Michigan Wave Fan' group, it's almost 800,000 strong - what if we got them all to help us here on this site, would A2.com go bonkers?

Two studies that I've seen in the past couple of years are probably important for us to consider. The first looked at the top QBs in the nation (now in the NFL) over a 4-5 period who started as freshmen and it was clear that as they became juniors and seniors their records got a lot better and their teams higher rated. Not a surprise. The second looked at the number of combined starts the OL had made and, again not surprisingly, the more experience the OL had the more wins the team had. couple the two and you have top rated teams. We are headed in the right direction. Time will tell whether RR can get us to NC level.

2sweetblue, the players were young. Hence the small senior class. The eldest Rodriguez players will be juniors this year. You can't expect youth and inexperience to win.

I am not particularly an RR supporter BUT it is now time to let this thing go, and also to stop guessing (yes guessing) and bickering as to what Michigan's football record will this fall. it seems that we are divided into two camps with strong opinions and guesses but when all is said and done it will be the team"s performance that determines the W-L record. I do agree that RR's record in the next one or two years will determine the outcome. I cannot help but remember that in pre-season 1997 I looked at the schedule and guessed 8-4. Every time I think "I know" I remind myself of 1997.

2sweet, While I agree with your assessment that RR is an embarrassment to the Michigan family and all that it represents, I disagree that they won't get 8 wins. If you look at the schedule, all they have to do is win their 4 non-conference games (ND has a new coach and QB), then beat lowly Indiana, Purdue, Illinois, and one other team, most likely MSU who has sucked the last two years despite beating us both times. UM should get 8 wins, but that won't change my opinion that RR doesn't belong at UM and is bad for the "brand."

Lorain, If it was all smoke and mirrors, UM wouldn't be self-imposing any restrictions or admitting guilt to anything. It's not smoke and mirrors...it's reality. Deal with it.

I love how we think everything was exaggerated. Wake up people the guy has done nothing but embarrassed the whole program and University. If he is not getting sued he is busy throwing the players under the bus. Remember the fake punt which cost us a game against Sparty he totally placed the blame on the player. Hate to burst your bubble but he is gone with less then eight wins. No more excuses like wait until he gets his players. Guess what people? He has his players and I don't see eight wins. BYE BYE RICHIE!!

Mitch nailed it! This whole thing was instigated by the Freep. It is all smoke and mirrors. The NCAA will accept the UM self-imposed restrictions, and the coaches and players will get on with prerparing for the 2010 season.

When the NCAA weighs in and sanctions are official RR will be fired for breach of contract and this nightmare will be over. We don't need Bobby Bowden Jr. coaching Michigan. When a M coach has to "lawyer up" and be protected by his posse (agent/lawyer) we have strayed from the tradition of M football in a big big way.

To all you RR lovers your king (of pain) will be fired that is unavoidable. Maybe not now but that day is coming. Please quit trying to tell everybody how much "good" the king has done. It's almost like you are trying to convince yourselves! There is more to the University of Michigan then wins and it is called class and the current coach doesn't have it....period. Go Blue for Life.

Attention to all Rich Rod haters! Attention! Did you guys catch that? Rich Rodriguez will not be fired and he is our coach. So stop crying and support the team. Michigan will get it done this year. GO BLUE!!!
