Michigan baseball falls to Texas Tech, EMU softball loses first-round MAC Tournament game

The Michigan baseball team outhit its guests from Lubbock 11-5 on Wednesday night, but Texas Tech capitalized on Wolverines miscues for a 6-4 win.

The Red Raiders took a quick lead after a bases-loaded walk in the first inning and scored on a wild pitch in the third.

Leadoff hitter Jamodrick McGruder chased Michigan starter Logan McAnallen with a two-run home run in the fourth that gave Texas Tech (30-20) a 4-1 lead.

McGruder went 2-for-5 and scored three runs for the Red Raiders, who completed a two-game mid-week sweep. (Boxscore)

The Wolverines (15-33) rallied late, getting ninth-inning RBI singles from Alex Lakatos (3-for-4) and Patrick Biondi (2-for-5).

SOFTBALL Ball State 2, Eastern Michigan 1: Jennifer Gilbert’s walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Cardinals a win in the first round of the double-elimination MAC Tournament in Akron, Ohio. Ball State’s Audra Sanders allowed four hits and struck out nine over eight innings. Jaclyn Caro and Lauren Wells split time in the circle for Eastern Michigan. Wells took the loss after 4.2 solid innings of relief. The Eagles play Kent State at 11 a.m. Thursday. (Details)
