Michigan, Eastern Michigan win women's basketball games

Freshman guard Dayeesha Hollins scored 10 of her game-high 17 points in the second half, leading the University of Michigan women's basketball team to a 67-50 win over Marquette Monday at Crisler Arena. (See AnnArbor.com photo gallery below.)

After trailing by double digits in the first half and 26-20 at halftime, Michigan (2-0) got hot in the second half, hitting 15-of-26 shots from the floor.

Hollins was joined in double figures by junior guard Veronica Hicks (13 points) and sophomore forward Carmen Reynolds (12). Senior forward Ashley Jones pulled down a game-best 10 rebounds.

MGoBlue.com reports that Jones, a fifth-year senior who missed all of last season with an injury, was key throughout the first several minutes of the second half, coming up with several defensive stops as well as creating havoc for the Marquette guards under the basket.

Janelle Harris, the older sister of Michigan guard Manny Harris, matched Marquette teammate Angel Robinson for team-high scoring honors with 11 points apiece.

MORE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Eastern Michigan 87, Marygrove College 45: Junior guard Cassie Schrock recorded a triple-double -- 11 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds -- in the Eagles' convincing win at the Convocation Center. EMUEagles.com reports it was the third triple-double in program history and the first since Ryan Coleman accomplished the feat in 2005. Sydney Huntley led the Eagles (2-0) with 15 points. Kristin Thomas had a game-high 14 rebounds for EMU, which held a 56-25 advantage on the boards.
