Michigan, EMU women's basketball teams pick up wins; U-M volleyball loses to Ohio State

After opening the Paradise Jam with a closer-than-anticipated win, the Michigan women's basketball team blew out Washington State on Friday night.

The unbeaten Wolverines shot a season-best 51.1 percent from the floor in a 69-39 victory at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center in St. Thomas on the U.S. Virgin Islands.

After allowing Prairie View A&M to hang around throughout a 69-63 win on Thursday, Michigan (6-0) jumped out to an 11-0 lead and took a 35-18 advantage into halftime.

Courtney Boylan scored a game-high 17 points and pulled down five rebounds, Carmen Reynolds scored in 11 points and Jenny Ryan contributed seven points and a career high eight assists.

Reynolds was perfect from the floor (3-for-3) and free throw line (4-for-4)

For the game, Michigan made 24-of-47 shots, including 9-of-16 (56 percent) from 3-point range. The Wolverines also made all 12 free throws they attempted.

Jazmine Perkins led Washington State (3-3) with nine points and five rebounds.

Michigan completes its three-game Paradise Jam schedule against Marquette on Saturday night.

Eastern Michigan 54, Cornell 52: Tavelyn James scored 16 points, including a game-winning layup with 17 seconds remaining for the Eagles (4-1) in Ithaca, N.Y. The host Big Red (1-4) missed two jumpers in the final seconds. Paige Redditt had 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds for EMU. (Details)

Ohio State 3, Michigan 1: The No. 22-ranked Wolverines lost early leads in two sets and thee Buckeyes won 25-20, 25-22, 16-25, 25-20 in the final regular season game of the year. Alex Hunt had 12 kills for Michigan. (Details)
