Michigan field hockey loses matchup of top 10 teams; U-M, EMU volleyball teams win
The North Carolina field hockey team did most of its damage in the first half and beat Michigan 5-0 at Ocker Field in both teams’ season opener.
The No. 2-ranked Tar Heels led 4-0 at halftime and added its final goal 17 seconds into the second half of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge game. Elizabeth Stephens and Samantha Travers scored two goals apiece for North Carolina while Sassi Ammer and Caitlin Powers split time in goal.
The No. 9-ranked Wolverines were outshot 16-7. Rachael Mack had five of those shots for Michigan, three of them on goal. (Boxscore)
Pioneer High School graduate Haley Jones made three saves for Michigan, which hosts Wake Forest at noon Sunday.
