Michigan football coach Brady Hoke earns first win with recruiting class; Thomas Rawls wants to shatter Mike Hart's U-M records and more

While the snow piled up in Ann Arbor Wednesday, so did the Michigan football team's recruiting class, which ranked No. 21 in the country.

With that, Lynn Henning of the Detroit News thinks Brady Hoke "put together a terrific recruiting class in three weeks."

Henning continues, "Imagine what he'll do with a football squad, hungry to show its potential, after seven-months of re-crafting and re-branding its identity."

Any positive press for Michigan is good, but Henning should stick to baseball, which is a sport he covers extremely well. Most of the outstate MSM are on autopilot now, and ecstatic about it. They are pulling out thirty years of "Michigan Man" memes that they have on file from the Bo era, and pretty much cutting and pasting today's names into them. I expect to hear about "Michigan Man" and "toughness" a lot from them in the next four or five years. I just won't be reading much more than excerpts. Local coverage and blogs are where it's really at for sports fans now. They both do a much better job of fulfilling the needs of a focused readership. If it wasn't for Angelique, whose passion and diligence are antithetical to what has been going on in Detroit for a few years now, I wouldn't be reading anyone from Detroit at all.

@Art, 4 games huh. We won 7 last year with "whatshisname". This year we have more experience coming back and coaches who care about Defense, so, I highly doubt only 4 games, comical. I'll tell you another thing, Hoke is gonna be in his players ears all year concerning our rivals, particularly OSU. They're going to be so psyched to play that team from Ohio that will put an end to this 10 yr run Tressell had. That's over, hope you enjoyed it, we'll see on the field won't we. Also, I see I ruffled some feathers, Go Blue!!

Art, when you have to come to our site and make predictions that means your worried or you wouldn't waste your breath. Now you are going to say, what do I have to be worried about, well Art, I just don't know your the one coming to the Michigan Wolverine site making predictions so why don't you tell me Art? I suppose your a little nervous that under coach Jim Tressells tutelage you guys don't seem to be improving from year to year. I will admit that Pryor is a good QB but at the same time he's kind of a disappointment huh Art? So what do ya think Art, I think there were a busload of teams that could have handed your bucs their butts this last season, sound like your improving Art? You see Art, we Mich. fans have been so humiliated that nothing you can say can bother us and quite frankly Art, the only direction for us is up, now on the other hand the only direction for you guys is down because why Art? Well Art, you know the answer to that you guys aren't getting any better your kind of staying the same from year to year you know, pretty good but not great. Your players like Pryor are acting out and you know why Art, well I think you do Art they don't respect your coach and they don't appreciate all the wonderful advantages that they have so graciously been given by the nice folks in Ohio. Art, you need to go home and tell those unappreciative players and your coach that they should be so lucky to be in Mich. shoes so they can start to appreciate the wonderful education and opportunity to play for such a fine school as ohio state you see Art, we at Mich. have learned this over the last 4 years you guys need to re learn it cause Art, it's obvious that the integrity of your coach and players has lost it's way. Now Art you go on back home and brush up on your manners or better yet I think we'll teach you some manners. Go Blue!

What would a OSU have to comment on. Michigan fans got what they asked for a Floyd Carr clone. Hoke will win as Carr did but come short in the end against OSU, Nebraska and PSU. Do not for get MSU. Hoke will have a occasional great season but that will be blown up in a bad bowl lose. The SEC is king and if you saw the recruits they haul in and watched M's performance in the bowl game Hoke has miles to go.

hey sonof Scoot, if you came here to harass us you gotta do better. You see scoot we are getting hungry just like you guys did when our LLoyd was beating your Cooper butts year after year after year and before you start coming here you need to know that this current batch of Wolves and fans is preparing for a war and not just with you bucs but with that whole pathetic big 10 that took a butt whipping in the bowls. Listen scoot, I will admit that the bucs got the consolation prize but you know what it wasn't even close to the BCS title and you can thank your buc butts that you didn't have to be consumed by either Oregon or Auburn. You guys are taking the big 10 for granted just like we did and just like we fell from grace don't think it can't or won't happen to you in the end. By the way, Nebraska is coming to town and the Wolves are slowly sharpening their fangs. I like it when you kids down there come up to Mich. to taunt it's going to make the whole return of Mich. so much more delicious and the anticipation of beating up on the whole big ten is awe inspiring to say the least. In case you haven't realized it, Jim Tressell is not really improving you from year to year for instance, YOU went to the Rose Bowl last year and beat Oregon but this year you didn't even make it to the Rose Bowl and Oregon went to the BCS game, sounds to me like your heading in the wrong direction son or maam. Also, don't talk about our Coach Brady Hoke like he's stupid we don't talk about your coach like he's stupid. Jim Tressell is starting to act like Barry Switzer did at Oklahoma letting players do as they please and violate rules. Jim is showing he wants to win at all cost even the integrity of your college. If that is acceptable to your fans and alum. then let me describe your eventual fate. You will feel yourself slowly slidding down a hill and at the bottom is a big stinky pile of poop and ya know what, I can already smell it. Now SCOOT!

If you believe Coach Hoke to be a clone of Coach Carr, I can understand the assumption Michigan will struggle against the Tressel-coached Buckeyes, but how'd you make the jump we'll lose to Nebraska, PSU and MSU? Coach Carr's Michigan played Nebraska once, with one of the worst teams of his career and came within a trick play of winning it. Basing your assumption on idea that Coach Hoke is a Carr-clone, there's not a lot of data to make the assumption they will consistently lose, at least I don't see it. Regarding Michigan State and Penn State, there is plenty of data. I believe Carr went 10-3 against the Spartans, taking a six-game winning streak into retirement. Coach Carr went 9-2 against Joe Paterno's Penn State, taking a nine game winning streak into retirement. Sounds pretty good to me. I should hope he is a Carr-clone against PSU and MSU, but not so much for OSU. Nebraska is anyone's guess. Go Blue

Some musings from Mick (3rd person reference and all), I'd like to call it McMusings: -Good news Theo, Portage, et al, we won't have to wait to field a winner, it will start happening this year, you can relax and you're welcome sirs. -If you do go back to Clarrett, OSU has had a series of questionable incidents, to say the least. It would have to be classified as a pattern and not isolated incidents, no? -I have a feeling that under Hoke, we won't be having these types of incidents in AA. Just a hunch. -Have you guys noticed how few postings, if at all, from OSU fans since Hoke got hired? I find that rather interesting, some of the OSU posters here were very reasonable and well thought out, I must say. There absence lately speaks volumes to me. -Finally, Portage, would you like to put your money where your mouth is? Since you live in Palm Springs and I in San Diego (stay classy), we can make a fun dinner wager,If I win you drive here and if you win, I'll drive there, I love Palm Springs and I'm sure you appreciate San Diego. If U-M wins 7 games or less you win, 8 wins is no deal and 9 wins or more, I win. Let's say at a Ruth's Chris type place or something equivalent. Are you game my friend?

Great work by Coach Hoke and his team rescuing the recruiting class from the toilet. We turned another page yesterday folks. You can feel the change happening to the football program, how the ship's being righted and we're getting back on course. Soon, the past 3 years will be a distant memory; ugly, but distant. Let the naysayers bray all they want, they are weak of both mind and spirit. Michigan football is on it's way back! It's good to be a Wolverine!

The victim had said he had a book in which he wrote down measurements. Police asked Carter to provide the book and he did. It revealed as many as eight victims." Bruner said he understood that the Ohio State scholarship offer was still in force. "The mother talked to Jim Tressel," he said. "And they are just holding it open for him." ----------------------- Assuming this guy doesn't go to jail, what an honor it will be to see Michigan play this guy as well as the ring-pawning Pryor and his underlings next November in Columbus. Yeesh...

Ya Theo, these boys and girls probably don't realize what great fans of Brady Hoke that we really are regardless of our past loyalties to RR. I think you get it Theo but for those boys and girls that want instant gratification under coach Hoke and this team I think the next 2 years maybe 3 is not going to be for the faint of heart Mich. fans.
