Michigan football team among finalists for recruit Sean Parker

By AnnArbor.com Staff

Brian Cook at mgoblog.com believes the chances of the Michigan football team landing prized high school safety Sean Parker are increasing.

Parker, a four-star recruit from Harbor City, Calif., has narrowed his list to Michigan, USC and Cal - and apparently taken Notre Dame out of the running.

Normally, it'd be a bad sign that the Trojans are in the mix, Cook writes, but they're stacked at safety. Could that favor Michigan?

Here's Cook's complete report.

Hope Parker picks UM, USC always has star S. Parker would start his senior year if he went to USC. Cal is not a program like Um and USC. My best bet is he would choose UM hopefully. If RR recruits Parker, Grimes, Knight, Mathis, and Murphy UM looks really bright on D in a few years. IT sux that hankins went to OSU but theres a chance he might decommit =D. RR is taking UM a different direction but its a good one. Lets hope UM can pick-up some guys that decommit and hopefully christian Jones at LB, that'll help even more. RR must be a great recruiter to be high ranked in recruiting and have 2 losing seasons. Next year will be a winning season. GO BLUE!!!!

Theo, I respect your loyalty to the football program and the current coaching staff. Sounds like you are a "glass half full" kind of guy. I also would like to see the team improve next year because the last two seasons have stunk pretty badly. I think you tend to see everything through maize-and-blue colored glasses, so it would be interesting to see how you would explain what happened the past two years, especially after you predicted a winning season. No, I don't think it was all Lloyd Carr's fault, either. He handed off a top 10 recruting class to RR but some of his players didn't want to play under RR's system, so they lost some players there that could've helped a lot, like Manningham, Boren, and Arrington, among others. I am not sold on RR yet until he brings substance (hard-nosed defense and winning seasons) to Ann Arbor and not just a gimmick offense with plenty of team speed that is hard-pressed to score from the one on 1st and goal. If he can do that, he'll earn my respect and that of the more objective U-M fan base. As you know, so far he is 8-16 at U-M in his two years as the head coach of the winningest football program in college football history. Not an impressive resume, I would say. The thing that hurts the most is how well they started off last year only to fall apart completely (except for Brandon Graham and a few others) toward the end of the year and lose to the likes of Purdue and Illinos, who were near the bottom of the Big Ten. I am heartened somewhat by RR's emphasis on recruiting much-needed defensive talent that is occurring now. I think the upcoming season for RR will be his deciding year. I wish him success, not because I particularly like him or his style, but because I want U-M to be a top notch football program again who does things in the right way and is above board in all of its dealings. I wish him the best. If he has another losing season in 2010, it will be time for U-M to go in another direction (like Jim Harbaugh) in my opinion.

With Michigan being so young and continuing to get recruits that play Rodriguez's style.. and the more Carr recruits who didn't transfer but just feel kinda "meh" about things move on- the team can only get better. I don't think a team that won 3 and 5 games yet is able to pull in ranking recruiting classes is going to get worse. I'm not saying USC is going to be bad (tho this past year was very alarming)- I honestly feel Michigan's worst days are behind them. The offense was good (not excellent) last year and that was with true freshman leading at QB, other freshman/sophomores all over the place, and injuries to starting RB and Center, etc. Any new bodies on defense is a good thing- a move in the right direction. As for the young guys on defense from last year- can only help experience and more time in the system helps them improve.

inRR..., You say that Parker "would be smart to pick Michigan" because "USC looks to be going down?" Wow. There's nothing I need to add to that, you've pretty much summed up all of your football acumen in one neat little bundle. Thanks.

Parker could start as a true freshman and make us better in the defensive backfield from day 1.

He would be smart to pick Michigan, USC looks like its going down hill after Caroll losing all of his assistants through the years. Michigan videos http://www.youtube.com/user/InRichRodWeTrust
