Michigan hockey falls to Notre Dame 7-4 in South Bend

By Pete Cunningham

The Michigan and Notre Dame hockey teams battled back-and-forth for most of the night on Friday at the Compton Family Arena in South Bend, Ind., but the Fighting Irish scored four of the game's final five goals to beat the Wolverines 7-4.

After Notre Dame (17‐11‐1, 13‐7‐1‐1 CCHA) took the lead just one minute, 16 seconds into the game, Michigan (10‐17‐2, 7‐14‐2‐2 CCHA) twice was able to tie the game in the second period, at 2-2 off of a goal from Cristoval "Boo" Nieves, and at 3-3 after a short-handed goal from Skyline High School graduate Andrew Copp.

But both times Notre Dame responded with power play goals as the Wolverines never led in the contest.

Nice win Rudy, you and the sparties are all the same. Out of the closet with a win, but back in when you get beat. This can't be true, no national championships for the domers in ice hockey? Hmm I figured there were at least one or two. Enjoy the down year this year, because this season is going to be just as invisible next year as Manti Te'o's GF was!

Sorry, JGS, you're dead wrong. I'm an ND fan through and through, win or lose. Always proudly sport my gear regardless. It's people like you who kept me from adopting my "hometown team" growing up. Far too many of your type in this town. Go Irish! And go Pioneer grad Bryan Rust!
