The Michigan hockey team snapped a three-game losing streak and earned its first road win of the season by topping Lake Superior State, 6-4 Friday night.

The win, Michigan's first since topping Michigan State in the Great Lakes Invitational third place game last month, brings its record to 8-13-2 an 5-10-2-2 in the CCHA.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Luke Moffatt and Derek DeBlois 20 seconds apart in the first period.

Michigan went on to lead 4-1, before LSSU climbed back to make it a 5-4 game with 1:26 left. But forward Alex Guptill notched the empty-net goal with 34 seconds left.

Moffatt finished with a game-high two goals. DeBlois, Guptill, Jacob Trouba and Phil DiGiuseppe had Michigan's other goals. Dexter native Andrew Sinelli finished with two assists.

Junior Adam Janecyk started in goal, recording 29 saves.

Michigan and LSSU face off again Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.

The announcers commented that this was Michigan's most complete game of the year. Good to hear, but they've had some other good games (Miami early on, Western and MSU more recently) only to follow-up them up with poor performances. At this point it's doubtful they can to get back into the national rankings, but a win tonight is needed to show they can sustain the high level of play over multiple games that will be needed for a CCHA tourney run. Go Blue!

Red Berenson seems to be set on making sure it's not a one-game thing this time. "Today is when we turn the season around," he said after last night's game.
