MARQUETTE - Rewind seven days.

After Carl Hagelin scored two dramatic goals to salvage the Michigan hockey team's regular-season home finale, Wolverines coach Red Berenson wondered aloud what would happen if the Swedish national anthem got played before every game.

A week later, Berenson got his answer. Hagelin scored twice Saturday night after his homeland's national anthem was played during Northern Michigan's senior night festivities before No. 10 Michigan shut out the Wildcats, 5-0, in the regular-season finale.

But the flashbacks to last Saturday don't stop there. In the post-game handshake, Western Michigan coach Jeff Blashill told Hagelin the Broncos would get him a win against first-place Notre Dame.

The Broncos did that Saturday night, knocking off the Irish 2-0, giving Michigan its first CCHA regular-season title since 2007-08.

With the win, Michigan (23-9-4, 20-7-1 CCHA) enters the CCHA Tournament as the No. 1 seed and will host a quarterfinal best-of-3 series beginning March 11 at Yost Ice Arena. The Wolverines started the night a point behind Notre Dame, which needed a win at home against Western to clinch the league title.

The Wolverines finished the season strong, winning six straight games, capped by Saturday night's shutout. Michigan used three third-period goals - including one by Hagelin - to pull away from the Wildcats.

Hagelin, playing without line mate Louie Caporusso, who missed the game with a lower body injury suffered in Friday night's 3-2 win, got Michigan on the board with a power-play goal at the 13:15 mark of the first period.

Luke Glendening pushed the lead to 2-0, scoring on a rebound with just less than 2 minutes remaining in the second period.

That's when Michigan turned it on.

Hagelin scored again - this time just 41 seconds into the final period. Matt Rust and David Wohlberg chipped in with goals of their own, putting the game out of reach.

Shawn Hunwick finished with 13 saves before senior Bryan Hogan played the final six minutes. It marked the first time Hogan had played since suffering a groin injury during warm-ups for the Big Chill At The Big House.

It's so fun to watch a UofM team grow and improve over the course of the season. Berenson is an amazing coach and will be sorely missed when he retires. In the meantime, let's go get him another NCAA Championship or two, M Icers!

CCHA: Yes, if you have a Comcast Digital package. According to the CCHA website, It looks like the first round will be split between Fox Sports Detroit and CBS College, the 2nd Round will be on an unspecified Comcast Channel, probably the local sports channel that is digital only (I want to say channel 900 in the Grand Rapids market) and the Semi-final and finals will be televised on Fox Sports Plus (Comcast 901). If you don't have Comcast, I do not know what options you have. Surprisingly, it does not look like any of the CCHA will be on the Big Ten Network. NCAA: Looks like most of the NCAA games are on ESPNU.

I will be the first to comment: Way to go Hockey Blue. I believe Michigan will be the leader in sports again, in the very short future. Go Blue.
