University of Michigan likely to open 2010 against BCS opponent

By Dave Birkett

Rich Rodriguez wouldn't talk specifics Monday, but Michigan is close to signing a deal with a major-conference opponent to open the 2010 season.

"We’re looking at a BCS school," Rodriguez said. "Home and home."

Duke, Virginia and Pitt are among the BCS schools with open dates in Week 1 next year. Because Michigan plays at Notre Dame next season, the Wolverines likely will want to begin the series at renovated Michigan Stadium.

Rodriguez also said he doubts the Wolverines ever will play a game after the customary Ohio State season finale.

"I’m not going to mess with tradition here," he said. "I would think we would always end with Ohio State."

Nice quote: "Im not going to mess with tradition here...." So much for those who still seem to think that RR doesn't understand or embrace UM traditions.
