Michigan athletic department asks Board of Regents to approve construction of golf practice facility
Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon submitted a proposal for an indoor golf practice facility for the Board of Regents to approve at its monthly meeting Thursday.
The $2.5 million project would be constructed over a portion of the current University of Michigan golf course driving range and calls for a 10,000-square foot building with a chipping and putting area.
The project would be funded from the Michigan athletic department "resources and gifts," the proposal letter submitted to the regents stated.
The new proposed facility would house coaches offices, locker rooms, a conference room, storage and a team meeting room.
Brandon and Executive Vice President Timothy Slottow are bringing in Ann Arbor Architects Collaborative to design the facility.
Also expected at the meeting is the approval of three appointments to the Advisory Board on Intercollegiate Athletics. Lynn Evans is being proposed for a three-year term from July 1, 2010-June 30, 2013 to replace Richard Rattner, whose term expired.
Student representatives David Moosman and Sarah Roberts are also being proposed for appointments. Moosman's term is expected to run through June 30, 2010 and Roberts' is slated to run through June 30, 2011.
