The 2013 Major League Soccer SuperDraft began on Thursday at noon and Michigan senior Kofi Opare is expected by most prognosticators to be selected, or at the very least signed by day's end. If so, it would be the culmination of a journey that started for Opare in his home country of Ghana.

Opare grew up in South Africa playing cricket and as the Michigan Daily's Alejandro Zuniga writes, was as far from a college soccer player as anyone possibly could be when his family moved to the Canada.

But Opare eventually devoted himself to the sport and grew at Michigan into player that was role player for an NCAA Final Four team as an underclassmen, a leader and star on an NCAA qualifying team as a senior and now, possibly, a professional.
