Michigan State hires CCHA commissioner Tom Anastos to be its new hockey coach
Michigan State has hired Tom Anastos, the commissioner of the CCHA since 1998, to be its hockey coach.
"I am extremely excited about returning to Michigan State to lead the Spartan hockey program and once again be a part of the MSU athletics department family," Anastos, a Michigan State alumnus, said in a statement released by the school moments ago.
"I have obviously maintained a relationship with MSU and been in close contact with the hockey program for the last 13 years in my role with the CCHA, but this opportunity is incredibly special.
The press conference introducing Anastos as the new coach will be streamed live at MSUSpartans.com.
Anastos is the sixth Michigan State hockey coach in program history and the fourth in the modern era. He replaces Rick Comley, who retired after 38 years of coaching.
Anastos was a four-year letterwinner at Michigan State (1981-85) for former coach Ron Mason. The sixth-round pick of Montreal played one season in the Canadiens organization, then joined the coaching staff at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, where he was head coach from 1987-90. In the fall of 1990, Anastos returned to Michigan State as an assistant coach under Mason.

??? Tom Anastos has a Div 1 coaching record of 0-0 and has been the CCHA commissioner for the last decade. As a michigan hockey fan, this a great hire. It would be the equivalent of Michigan hiring an athletic director who use to play for Bo in the 80's...

I think this will be a good hire for MSU.
