Michigan volleyball matches program-best start (13-0) and more Friday night results

The Michigan volleyball team matched its best start in program history, beating Indiana 3-0 for its 13th consecutive win.

It was also the Big Ten opener for the No. 18-ranked Wolverines (13-0, 1-0), who got 14 kills from sophomore Lexi Erwin in 25-20, 25-16 and 25-13 wins Friday night in Bloomington, Ind.

Alex Hunt (11 kills), Lexi Dannemiller (37 assists) and Sloane Donhoff (14 digs) also contributed for the Wolverines.

For the Wolverines to eclipse the 13-win record, they’ll have to beat No. 13-ranked Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind., on Saturday night. Michigan teams in 2006, 2007 and 2008 all started 13-0.

Western Michigan 3, Eastern Michigan 1: The Eagles won the first set in Kalamazoo, but the Broncos swept three straight for a MAC-opening win. Rachel Iaquaniello led the Eagles (12-3, 0-1) with 11 kills. (Details)

Minnesota 3, Michigan 2: Minnesota's Taylor Uhl scored twice in the second half, including the game-winner with 58 seconds remaining, to erase Michigan's 2-1 halftime lead. (Details)

Ohio 1, Eastern Michigan 0: The Eagles (0-7-1, 0-1 MAC) were shut out for the fourth consecutive game. Cat Rogers scored for Ohio in the 83rd minute. (Details)

FIELD HOCKEY

Ohio State 2, Michigan 1: Danica Decker’s goal with 1:32 remaining gave the Buckeyes a Big Ten-opening win on their home field and snapped No. 11-ranked Michigan’s win streak at four games. Decker scored both Ohio State (5-5, 1-0) goals. Michigan (6-3, 0-1) got a penalty stroke goal from Bryn Bain. (Details)

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

Toledo Bubble Buster: Eastern Michigan freshman Victoria Voronko finished 21st individually and the Eagles were eighth at the eight-team event. (Details)
