EVANSTON, Ill. -- Amy Jaeschke's turnaround jumper with 1:12 remaining gave Northwestern the lead for good in a back-and-forth second half and the Wildcats completed a season sweep of Michigan with a 64-60 win at Welsh-Ryan Arena Thursday night.
After Jaeschke's basket put Northwestern up 61-60, Kendall Hackney blocked a 3-point attempt by Michigan's Carmen Reynolds. The Wildcats milked the shot clock on the ensuing possession, until Beth Marshall was fouled on a drive with 17 seconds remaining.
She hit both free throws and Michigan's Courtney Boylan missed a 3-pointer to tie. Hackney, who grabbed the rebound, finished the scoring with a free throw.
Michigan battled back from a 10-point first half deficit to take a 50-49 lead. The teams exchanged the lead from there, according to NUSports.com, with neither team holding more than a one-possession advantage.
Veronica Hicks led the Wolverines with 16 points in her return to the Chicago area. Krista Phillips added 13 points and Dayeesha Hollins 11 for the Wolverines (13-9, 5-7 Big Ten).
Hackney led Northwestern (14-9, 7-7) with 18 points.
