During the off-season, Michigan hockey coach Red Berenson contemplated making Carl Hagelin into more of a goal-scorer.

Turns out, getting pucks past opposing goalies hasn't been an issue for the junior forward.

After scoring two goals and adding three assists in a weekend sweep of Western Michigan, Hagelin was named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association's Offensive Player of the Week.

Much of Hagelin's offensive output came in Saturday night's 6-1 win over the Broncos. He scored a pair of third-period goals that broke the game open after assisting on Michigan's first two goals.

Hagelin is one goal off his single-season high of 13 goals set last year as a sophomore. He has 25 points with 22 goals after registering 31 points in 41 games last year.

"I just try and improve my game every game," Hagelin said last week. "It has nothing to do with the team playing (good or bad). It's important for me to become a better player all the time, and that's what I'm trying to do."
