Minnesota rallies to beat Michigan volleyball and more U-M, EMU results

By AnnArbor.com Staff

After the Michigan volleyball team won the first two sets of its annual “pink game” on Friday night, things turned decidedly in the favor of the maroon and gold.

No. 14-ranked Minnesota won the last three sets for a comeback victory in front of 1,122 fans at Cliff Keen Arena.

The Wolverines (14-3, 2-3 Big Ten) have lost three of their last four games -- all to nationally-ranked Big Ten opponents -- after starting the season 13-0.

Michigan, wearing special pink jerseys that were sold in a silent auction throughout the match, won the first two sets 25-22 and 25-18.

Minnesota (9-5, 2-3) led the third set 22-15 before Michigan rallied to within 24-23 on back-to-back kills by Alex Hunt. The Wolverines ended that comeback attempt with a service error, giving Minnesota life.

The Gophers won the fourth set 25-19 and had 10 kills on 14 attempts while winning the fifth and deciding set 15-10.

Lexi Erwin (23 kills) and Hunt (21 kills) led the Wolverines’ attack.

The pink game was the team’s fourth annual event with the University of Michigan Women's Health Program to raise awareness and funds to help fight the cause of breast cancer.
