No. 2 Iowa wrestling thumps Michigan and more Sunday college results
Iowa extended its wrestling dual meet win streak to 76 with a 30-7 win over Michigan on Sunday afternoon.
The No. 2-ranked Hawkeyes won eight of 10 matches, including two by pin, as Iowa finished unbeaten in Carver-Hawkeye Arena for the 19th time.
Michigan, ranked No. 10, did get a victory from Kellen Russell in the day’s most intriguing individual matchup.
Ranked No. 1 nationally at 141 pounds by InterMat, Russell used a late rally to beat No. 3 Montell Marion, 9-5, in overtime. He scored a match-tying takedown with 15 seconds left in regulation.

More wrestling Kent State 30, Eastern Michigan 3: No. 15-ranked Kent State put a damper on senior day festivities at Bowen Field House. Chris Eggert was EMU’s only winner at 174 pounds. (More details)
Softball Michigan 16, Ohio 3: Dorian Shaw went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs as Michigan finished its season-opening Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational with a 5-0 record. Women’s gymnastics Stanford 196.8, Michigan 196.5, Nebraska 195.4: Michigan senior Kylee Botterman posted the second perfect 10 of her career in the vault and won the all-around title, but the No. 8-ranked Wolverines finished behind No. 2 Stanford in a tri-meet at Crisler Arena. Women’s tennis Michigan 4, Vanderbilt 3: The No. 8-ranked Wolverines split six singles matches with No. 18 Vanderbilt, but earned the victory by sweeping three doubles matches. Denise Muresan won the No. 1 singles match and, along with Brooke Bolender, remained unbeaten at No. 1 doubles. (More details)
Men’s tennis Vanderbilt 5, Michigan 2: Evan King (No. 1) and Jason Kung (No. 2) each won singles matches and combined to win No. 2 doubles for Michigan, but Vanderbilt swept the rest of the matches at the Varsity Tennis Center. (More details)
Women’s golf Lady Puerto Rico Classic: Michigan is 16th out of 18 teams after the first of three days of play at The River Course at the Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. The Wolverines’ Meagan Bauer and Alyssa Shimel each shot 5-over 77s, good for a 31st-place tie. Camilla Lennart shot a tournament-leading 70 for Alabama, which leads the team standings by 14 strokes.
