Pat Forde checks in on Rich Rodriguez's second year at Michigan, and lingering ghosts

ESPN.com's Pat Forde finds reason for optimism on Rich Rodriguez's second year in Ann Arbor in this column from Big Ten media day in Chicago.
Here's a little taste to whet your appetite, and perhaps catch the ire of some Wolverines fans overly enamored with the past:
"One of the great charms and great problems with Michigan football is its love affair with the rearview mirror. With such a storied history, who wouldn't relish reliving it and trying to replicate it? But living in the past can keep a place from moving forward."

Second year is when RR is at his best! Michigan Big Ten Champions this year!

Actually, at season's end, Tressel will be seeing John Cooper's reflection in the mirror, and Dantonio will already be lobbying for his job behind his back. The "whine and cheese" will be at MSU after they lose not only to UM, but to most of the other teams they play this year, and realize that their "resurgence" of 2008 was another cruel mirage, like the ones they are so used to now.

At seasons end it will still be Tress and Dantonio eating steak while Rich Rod will settle for Dominos. The wine and cheese crowd won't be contend with the 6 or maybe 7 wins this season. 9/5/09 they may not be happy as Western Michigan has a real shot at victory.
