Phoenix Coyotes sign Michigan defenseman Chris Summers to entry level deal
GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Phoenix Coyotes have signed defenceman Chris Summers, one of their two first-round draft picks in 2006, to an entry level contract.
Coyotes general manager Don Maloney says the 22-year-old Summers will report to the team's American Hockey League affiliate in San Antonio.
Summers, who served as Michigan's captain this season, returned to the Wolverines line-up for the NCAA Tournament after missing Michigan's the past two weeks with a leg injury.
Summers four goals and 12 assists in 40 games this season. In his four-year career with the Wolverines, Summers had 16 goals, 44 assists, 191 penalty minutes and a plus-66 rating.
Fellow Michigan senior defenseman Steve Kampfer signed a contract with the Boston Bruins Tuesday and was assigned to the club's AHL affiliate in Providence, R.I.
