Ready for professional swimming? New league starts with meet in Ann Arbor
Professional swimming starts here.
Where it will end up is anybody's guess.
The inaugural event in the Professional Swimming League is at Canham Natatorium on Wednesday and Thursday.
The University of Michigan pool is a natural site for the launch of the league, considering the league was formed by former Michigan swimmer Bobby Savulich and Club Wolverine Elite coach Mark Hill.
The league lists 34 swimmers on its website, although a press release this week notes that 14 Olympians and 30 U.S. national team members are in the league. Ten of the pros are members of Ann Arbor-based Club Wolverine, the release said. Swimmers are split into two teams and will earn $300 for finishing first, $150 for second and $50 for third.
The swimming begins at 8 p.m. both days and tickets cost $10.
