Red Wings players excited to play Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium

By Pete Cunningham

The Detroit Red Wings visited Ann Arbor on Thursday as the NHL officially announced Michigan Stadium as the venue for the 2013 Winter Classic between the Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Red Wings coach Mike Babcock has been to the stadium on many football Saturdays — his daughter, Allie, is a freshman at Michigan — and said he anticipates, "a moment you’ll always remember."

For Red Wings defenseman Niklas Krowall, it was his first visit to Michigan Stadium.

"I’ve never been in a place that seats this many people I’ve never really seen it," Kronwall said. "I think its’ going to be crazy, something very special that we get to be a part of."

I'm happy to see that the Red Wings players seem genuinely excited for the event, but boy, it's amazing that even after 20 years with the Wings, and being one of the most dominant modern-day local (detroit-area) athletes, reporters still can't get Lidstrom's name right... Sorry, just a pet peeve of mine

"Did we spell it wrong somewhere?" No, the reporter referred to Lidstrom as "Lindstrom" in one of the interviews....
